Ice Cream Hike

It was not a normal day at Getchy. Something was different. Patty and Lisa had a secret, and we knew it. We were all ready to have our meeting, we always have a meeting before working, when suddenly an expression of excitement came to Patty's face. "We're going to Ben and Jerry's!" she stated, grinning. Our eyes and faces lit up; we couldn't wait!
Getchy galloped its way down the worn stairs of the staff section of the Children's Discovery Museum, and waited giddily at the bottom, the smiles plastered onto our faces, we were ready. Patty then told us that she had something planned to do before our sweet reward. We groaned, or at least I did. I wanted ice cream! It was beyond hot outside, and ice cream would be the perfect way to beat the heat.

We walked along the side of the road, our camera straps pulling at our necks. They felt extra heavy, because of the heat. Patty stopped at an over hang. I looked at her mostly confused. Why are we stopping here? Maybe we're just stopping so the rest of the group could catch up, but couldn't we do that at the corner? This is odd.
Instantly, I saw words on the shimmering pillars that held the over-pass, that I'd always overlooked. They had been painted silver. On one side were words like "earth," "half-way," and "mountain," but to our surprise, on the other gleamed those words in a native american language. This was a great place to take pictures, and we had a blast. This just goes to prove that, as Meg says, "There're hidden treasures everywhere, the most memorable are always somewhere you would never expect them."

After about 20 or 30 minutes, we were back on our way to Ben and Jerry's, all, once again, quite psyched about the ice cream we'd soon eat. Time went by fast, as we joked, and walked. Before we knew it, we were standing in front of Ben and Jerry's. Well, maybe not in front, (the was a line of people who had come before waiting for ice cream) but 50 feet away, at the most. We stood happily at the end of the line.
The boys of Getchy, Aaron, Rigo, Julio, and Saul, spied a girl about 6 years older than each of them, and began to take pictures of her. They didn't get very good pictures, due to her being across the street, and using the "zoom-in button" wasn't working. I could tell they were lost, so I stepped in, telling them that I would cross the street with Lisa, and we would get a few pictures of her. Although they were bashful about it at first, they didn't mind us doing the work.
We crossed the street and approached the girl they had been eyeing. She turned out to be really nice, and even let us take those pictures. We crossed back over to the boys, and showed them the pics we had taken, as they drooled.
Finally it was our turn to get ice cream. A sigh of both relief and happiness spread through Getchy as we ordered our cold treat. As we were about to exit, in walked the girl we had taken pictures of. She smiled and introduced herself to each of the boys, their eyes widened. I gasped and began to laugh. She asked the boys to take a picture with her, and they did, but they were all still pretty shocked. That was a reward in itself.
After a short walk, we returned to The Children's Discovery Museum, Lisa, Meg, and I jogged up the back steps to find the fire alarm pulled!
After we turned the alarm off, we let the other Getchy members back in.
Just another day at Getchy.
